No boxer has made more of an impression on the collective sporting consciousness than Muhammad Ali: indeed, it is arguable that no sportsman ever made a bigger global impact.
But what was it about Ali that made him so special? The American heavyweight's genius lay not just in his technical excellence, although his quicksilver feet, which allowed him to dance around opponents, and razor-sharp hands which could flash through an opponent's guard before he could even realise the danger were dazzling.
